604 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 501

new sections to be known respectively as 532A, 532B, and
532C, to follow immediately after Section 532 of said Article,
providing for the disposition at public auction by the Chief
of Police of Baltimore County of all lost, abandoned, stolen,
lawfully seized or unclaimed property of every kind and de-
scription, in the custody or under the control of the Police
Department of Baltimore County, authorizing the transfer
of title to motor vehicles so sold upon certificate of the
Chief of Police, and providing for the disposition of monies
realized from any sales.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That three new sections be, and they are hereby, added
to Article 3 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1930 Edition), title "Baltimore County", sub-title "Police
and Police Stations", said new sections to be known as Sec-
tions 532A, 532B, and 532C, and to follow immediately after
Section 532 of said Article, and to read as follows:

532A. The Chief of Police of Baltimore County is hereby
authorized and empowered to sell, at public auction, any and
all lost, abandoned, stolen, lawfully seized or unclaimed prop-
erty, of every kind and description remaining unclaimed for
ninety days or more in the possession or under the control of
the Police Department of Baltimore County, provided that the
Chief of Police of Baltimore County shall, prior to any public
auction sale, advertise, once in one or more newspapers printed
and published in Baltimore County, that on some day to be
named in said advertisement, not less than ten days after the
publication thereof, he will offer for sale, at public auction,
such lost, abandoned, stolen, lawfully seized or unclaimed
property, which advertisement shall set forth the time, place
and terms of said sale, together with a detailed description of
the property to be sold, and provided further that the Chief
of Police of Baltimore County, before selling any property as
herein provided, shall make a reasonable effort to ascertain the
owner or owners thereof, and shall, if the owner or owners and
his, her, their, or its residence be known, mail a registered
notice to said owner or owners at such residence, at least ten
days prior to the date of sale.

532B. The certificate of the Chief of Police of Baltimore
County that he has sold any motor vehicle at public auction to
a purchaser shall constitute sufficient evidence of title to any
motor vehicle thus sold, in order to enable any such purchaser
to obtain a certificate of title and registration from the Com-
missioner of Motor Vehicles of Maryland.

532C. From the proceeds of any public auction sale, the
Chief of Police of Baltimore County shall, in the order here
