SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety, and being
passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of all
the members elected to each of the two Houses of the General
Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date of its pas-
sage.

CHAPTER 492.
(House Bill 187)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-section
(e) of Section 348 of Article 56 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Licenses", sub-title "Beal
Estate Brokers", relating to the requirements for licenses.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted Toy the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sub-section (e) of Section 348 of Article 56 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Licenses",
sub-title "Beal Estate Brokers", be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

348. (e) The Commission shall have the power to require all
applicants for a license under this sub-title to act as a real
estate broker, including members of co-partnerships and asso-
ciations and officers of corporations to present reasonable proof
that they are trustworthy and qualified to perform the func-
tions authorized by the license applied for, including passage
of a reasonable written examination as to their knowledge of
the general functions of a real estate broker and the general
procedure for handling real estate transactions so as to prop-
erly protect the interests of those whom they may represent in
such transactions, provided that all persons who hold such a
license under the provisions of this sub-title on the effective
date thereof shall be entitled to a renewal of their license upon
applying therefor and paying the prescribed fee unless their li-
cense shall have been suspended or revoked for cause as pro-
vided in Section 355 of this sub-title; and provided further that
any applicant for such a license who resides in any of the
counties now exempted from the provisions of this sub-title
and who is regularly engaged in business as a real estate bro-
ker on the effective date of this Act shall be granted a license
