CHAPTER 461.
(House Bill 487)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 4
of Article 70A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Old Age Assistance", as said section was
amended by Chapter 290 of the Acts of 1941, relating to the
amount of assistance which may be received by any recipient.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 4 of Article 70A of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Old Age Assistance", as said
section was amended by Chapter 290 of the Acts of 1941, be
and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

4. (AMOUNT OF ASSISTANCE. ) The amount of old age assist-
ance which any recipient shall receive shall be determined
by the County Department with due regard to the available
resources and necessary expenditures of the individual and the
conditions existing in each case, and in accordance with the
rules and regulations made by the State Department, and shall
be sufficient, when added to all other income and support
available to the recipient to provide such person with a reason-
able subsistence compatible with decency and health. Pro-
vided, however, that no award for old age assistance shall be
made in excess of forty dollars (f40) a month.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1943.

CHAPTER 462.
(House Bill 530)

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 7 of the Code of Pub-
lic Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Carroll
County", sub-title "General Powers", said new section to be
known as Section 531B and to follow immediately after
Section 531A of said Article, granting to The Mayor and
Common Council of Westminster power to pass ordinances
establishing a merit and pension system for the City of
Westminster.
