inafter authorized election conducting body, prior to May 1
preceding any election.

The first election shall be conducted by the Board of Direc-
tors of the Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.,
thereafter by the Fire Board. All elections for members of
the Fire Board shall be held at the Cabin John Fire Hall on
the second Friday of May from 7 P. M. to 10 P. M. and be by a
majority secret ballot of the registered voters for members in
their respective areas and by all the registered voters in* the
entire Fire District for the members at large.

The original members of the Fire Board shall be selected for
terms commencing upon the date of their election or selection
and expiring as follows:

The members selected from the areas designated as 1 and 2
above on May 15, 1944.

The members selected from the areas designated as 3 and 4
above on May 15, 1945.

The members selected from the area designated as No. 5
above and the two members selected at large on May 15, 1946.

Any member selected to succeed an original member of the
Fire Board shall be selected for a term of two (2) years com-
mencing upon the expiration of the term of office for which
his predecessor was selected, except that any member selected
to fill a vacancy occurring prior to the expiration of the term
of office for which his predecessor w, as selected, shall hold office
only for the remainder of such term.

Thirty days prior to election dates the body conducting the
election shall give public notice of the vacancies to be filled,
the date for filing nominating petitions, as well as the date
of the election by the posting of notices in the Cabin John
Fire Hall, the Cabin John Post Office and announcement in at
least one newspaper of general circulation in the Fire District.

If for any reason the registered voters of an area or of the
District as a whole fail to nominate or elect a member or
members to the Fire Board the said Fire Board shall select
from that area or the District as a whole a qualified person
or persons to represent said area or the District at large and
such person or persons shall have all the rights and privileges
in every manner as though elected by the registered voters in
his area or the District at large.

Members of the Fire Board shall serve without compensation
and the Fire Board shall elect its chairman from its members
and shall elect such other officers and adopt such regulations
governing their affairs, as they may deem appropriate.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the im-
mediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
