mission, and shall be the same as other Montgomery County
Police of the same grade. Said Montgomery County Police
and park police shall hold their positions until resignation,
death, retirement as hereinafter provided, inability, through
sickness or injury, to perform the duties of a police officer,
or dismissal after trial before the Police Trial Board, as
hereinafter provided. Appointments to fill vacancies or
subsequently created positions in said county police shall
be made only from among the first ten names on the current
list certified to the Board of County Commissioners by the
Police Civil Service Commission, at the time of appointment
as is required by Section 779, provided however, that this
requirement shall not apply to the first appointment of the
one hundred (100) County Police and five (5). park police as
is provided for in this sub-title. Each appointee shall be
examined by the Health Officer of Montgomery County and
a written report of his physical condition submitted by said
Health Officer to the Board of County Commissioners, before
such appointment is final. Provided any person having
been appointed by the Board of County Commissioners upon
certification by the Police Civil Service Commission, shall
serve one year on the Montgomery County Police Force which
shall be designated as the probation period before having his
name entered permanently on the rolls of the Montgomery
County Police Force, and during such probation period he may
be removed at any time for any cause that the Board of County
Commissioners may deem sufficient. In the event his physical
condition is not satisfactory to the Board, the name of such
appointee shall be dropped from the list, he shall be so notified,
and some other person from among the first ten names on said
list shall be selected for appointment, after passing said
physical examination to the satisfaction of the Board.
781. The Board of County Commissioners shall appoint, in
addition to the above mentioned officers, a suitable and qualified
person as Chief of the Montgomery County Police, at a salary
not to exceed the sum of Four Thousand ($4, 000. 00) Dollars per
annum, payable in equal monthly instalments which shall be
in lieu of the salary of Twenty-five Hundred ($2, 500. 00) Dol-
lars and expense allowance of Four Hundred ($400. 00) Dollars
provided for by Chapter 9 of the Acts of 1935 and the Five
Hundred ($500. 00) Dollars increase in- salary provided for by
Chapter 57 of the Acts of 1937. Said Chief of Police shall
have control and supervision over the other members of the
force, fix such duties, at such hours, as said Chief of Police
may think proper, subject, however, at all times to such rules,
orders and regulations as the County Commissioners may
from time to time prescribe.
