Edition), title "Montgomery County", sub-title "Police", said
new section to be known as Section 800B and Section 800C,
and to follow immediately after Section 800A of said Code
and all to read as follows:

780. The County Commissioners of Montgomery County are
hereby authorized and empowered to appoint one hundred
(100) police officers for Montgomery County at large, said
police officers so appointed to be residents of Montgomery
County, except as hereinafter provided and to be known and
designated as "Montgomery County Police"; provided, however,
that the police officers who are members of the Montgomery
County Police force on January 1, 1943, shall be among the
members so appointed, and that the County Commissioners of
Montgomery County are further authorized and empowered to
appoint from time to time, additional police officers in addition
to those herein specifically authorized and to pay all police
officers such salaries in addition to those salaries hereinafter
authorized by this sub-title and to create additional rank and
grade when, in their opinion, the same is necessary for the
conduct of the police force and the protection and welfare
of the citizens of Montgomery County. In addition to the
Montgomery County Police, said County Commissioners are
authorized and empowered from time to time to appoint not
to exceed five (5) park police officers, one of whom shall be a
sergeant, to be known as Sergeant of Park Policemen, said
park police officers to be appointed at such times as the Mary-
land-National Capital Park and Planning Commission shall
certify the necessity of such appointment and its readiness
to pay their compensation and expense. The park police of-
ficers shall be assigned to the patroling of such parks, park
roads and drives as may be established in Montgomery County
under the authority of the Maryland-National Capital Park
and Planning Commission, shall be under the control and
supervision of the Chief of Police of Montgomery County,
and shall possess all of the powers and authority of other
Montgomery County Police officers. And the Montgomery
County Police shall patrol and protect all lands, property,
roads and highways of the Maryland-National Capital Park
and Planning Commission lying and situate in Montgomery
County until the park police authorized by this section have
been appointed. All of the provisions of this sub-title which
apply to Montgomery County shall also apply to park
police, except where such application is inconsistent, or
where the park police are specifically excluded therefrom.
The compensation, uniforms and equipment and motor ve-
hicles of said park police shall be paid for and furnished
by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Com-
