ing the County Commissioners of Washington County
to fix the compensation of the County Clerk not to ex-
ceed a certain maximum nor to be less than a certain
minimum.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 144 of Article 22 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Washington County, " sub-title "County Commissioners, "
as said section was amended by Chapter 485 of the Acts
of 1939, be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
144. The County Clerk shall receive for his services
such salary as the County Commissioners may, in their
discretion, prescribe, not exceeding Two Thousand Five
Hundred Dollars ($2, 500. 00) per annum, and not less
than Two Thousand Dollars ($2, 000. 00) per annum,
payable in equal monthly installments by the said
County Commissioners. The said County Commissioners
are hereby authorized and empowered to employ an
assistant to the County Clerk, who shall receive for his
services an annual salary fixed by the County Commission-
ers at their discretion but not exceeding Eighteen Hundred
Dollars ($1, 800. 00), payable in equal monthly installments,
and to employ an attorney for said Commissioners, who
shall receive for his services an annual salary fixed by the
County Commissioners at their discretion but not exceed-
ing Nine Hundred Dollars ($900. 00), payable in equal
monthly installments. The said County Commissioners are
hereby authorized and required to levy the needful taxes
on the assessable property within the county liable to tax-
ation as shall be sufficient to pay said salaries.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1943.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 7
of Article 100 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Work—Hours of, in Factories", sub-title
"Employment of Minors", relating to the employment of
minors in certain hazardous occupations.
