HERBERT R. O'CONOR, GOVERNOR. 487

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 7 of Article 100 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Work—Hours of, in Fac-
tories", sub-title "Employment of Minors", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

7. No child under the age of sixteen years shall be em-
ployed, permitted, or suffered to work at any of the following
occupations, or in any of the following positions: Adjusting
any belt to any machinery; sewing or lacing machine belts in
any workshop or factory; oiling, wiping or cleaning machinery
or assisting therein; operating or assisting in operating any
of the following machines: Circular or band saw, crosscut
saws, slashers, or other cutting machines; wood shapers, wood
jointers, planers, sandpaper or wood-polishing machinery,
wood turning or boring machinery, picker machines or ma-
chines used in picking wool, cotton, hair or any other material,
carding machines, paper-lace machines, leather-burnishing
machines, job or cylinder printing presses operated by power
other than foot-power, boring or drill presses, stamping ma-
chines used in sheet metal and tinware or in paper and leather
manufacturing or in washer or nut factories, metal or paper
cutting machines, corner-staying machines in paper-box
factories, corrugating rolls, such as are used in corrugated
paper, roofing or washboard factories, steam boilers, dough
brakes or cracker machinery of any description, wire or iron
straightening • or drawing machinery, rolling-mill machinery,
power punches or shears, washing, grinding, or mixing ma-
chinery, calendar rolls in paper or rubber manufacturing,
laundering machinery; or in proximity to any hazardous or
unguarded belts, machinery or gearing; or on any machine or
machinery deemed by the Commissioner, after investigation, to
be dangerous to life or limb; or upon any railroad, whether
steam or electric or hydraulic; or upon any vessel or boat
engaged in navigation or commerce.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1943.
