lowed to each, and all other items of expense, which state-
ment, under oath, it shall be the duty of the Sheriff to make
up and submit to the said County Commissioners at the
time of each monthly requisition, which sum or sums shall
be in lieu of all expenses, fees and costs now or heretofore
allowed the Sheriff of Somerset County for expenses in
carrying out the duties of his office, including all expenses
for transporting prisoners to and from penal institutions
and places of confinement in the State of Maryland under
sentence or order of any legal authority, and the said
County Commissioners shall not pay the said Sheriff any*
other or further compensation for any service he may
render in the discharge of his official duties, and said Com-
missioners shall not be liable in any way for any other fee
or compensation whatsoever to said Sheriff than is above
provided for the discharge of his official duties and the
expenses of his office, except for the boarding and keeping
of prisoners in the County Jail as hereinafter provided.
394. In computing the said monthly account for ex-
penses, the Sheriff of Somerset County shall be allowed
mileage at the rate of seven cents ($0. 07) per mile for the
use of his automobile or the automobile of his Chief Deputy
or any of his deputies in the discharge of their official
duties and he shall be allowed his actual carfare or mileage
as aforesaid in the transportation of all prisoners to and
from penal institutions and places of confinement in the
State of Maryland, under sentence or order of any legal
authority.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1943.

CHAPTER 413.
(Senate Bill 322)
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 89B of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "State
Roads", said new section to be known as Section 2A
and to follow immediately after Section 2 of said Article,
providing for the classification of certain employees of
the State Roads Commission as "Resident Maintenance
Engineers" and for their compensation.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
