SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That if any part or
parts of this Act or of any section thereof shall be held to
be unconstitutional or unlawful, the validity of the remain-
ing parts or sections of this Act shall not be affected.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1943.

CHAPTER 412.
(Senate Bill 295)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections
393 and 394 of Article 20 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Somerset
County, " sub-title "Sheriff, " as said sections were amend-
ed by Chapter 409 of the Acts of 1941, increasing the
allowance to the Sheriff for expenses and mileage.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 393 and 394 of Article 20 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition),
title "Somerset County, " sub-title "Sheriff, " as said section
was amended by Chapter 409 of the Acts of 1941, be and
they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:

393. The Sheriff of Somerset County shall receive
an annual salary of the sum of twenty-four hundred
dollars ($2, 400. 00), to be paid to him in monthly install-
ments of two hundred dollars ($200. 00), by the County
Commissioners of Somerset County; and he shall be
allowed sums not exceeding in the aggregate the sum
of five thousand dollars ($5, 000. 00) for any one year
for all expenses of his office, including automobile
mileage allowance, telephone and telegraph expense, cler^
ical assistance, and necessary deputies to assist in the dis-
charge of his duties, except the salary of a Chief Deputy,
which is hereinafter provided for, the said account for
office expenses and deputies to be paid monthly by the
County Commissioners of said Somerset County, but only
upon the presentation to them by the Sheriff of a full and
complete statement, under oath, setting forth all of the
items of said expense account for the month in question,
including the names of all deputies and the amounts al-
