HERBERT R. O'CONOR, GOVERNOR. 415

(1930 Edition), title "Prince George's County", said new
sub-title to be known as "Taxicabs", and said new sections
to be known as Sections 978A and 978B, all to follow im-
mediately after Section 978 of said Article, providing for
the regulation of taxicabs and their owners and operators
in said County by the Board of County Commissioners of
said County, and providing penalties for violations of such
regulations.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That one new sub-title and two new sections be, and
they are hereby, added to Article 17 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Prince George's
County", the new sub-title to be known as "Taxicabs", and
the new sections to be known as Sections 978A and 978B,
and both to follow immediately after Section 978 of said Ar-
ticle, and to read as follows:

TAXICABS.

978A. The Board of County Commissioners of Prince
George's County, Maryland, are hereby authorized and em-
powered to enact ordinances providing regulations for the
operation of taxicabs in said County and for the registration
and fixing requirements for the owners and operators of taxi-
cabs to protect the safety, health and general welfare of said
County and its residents, citizens and occupants, provided
said regulations are not in conflict with the laws of the State
of Maryland, and regulations adopted by the Commissioner of
Motor Vehicles.

The violation of any of the provisions of such ordinance or
ordinances shall be considered a misdemeanor, and upon con-
viction thereof before a trial magistrate of said County, or
other competent Court, the offender shall be subject to a fine
of not exceeding f25. 00 for each offense and in default of pay-
ment of the fine, to imprisonment for not exceeding 25 days.

978B. The word "taxicabs" when used in this sub-title,
shall mean a taxicab as defined in Section 361 of Article 23
of the Public General Laws of Maryland.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1943.
