HERBERT R. O'CONOR, GOVERNOR. 391

Council, it becomes necessary to rewrite the registration books
because of such books having become so worn or filled by
names so to be unusable or because of the establishment of
another Precinct for election purposes making additional
'books necessary or for any other reason making it imprac-
tical to use the books formerly in use, the names of all per-
sons now registered on such registration books, except those
who have not voted for five years at either a regular or special
election held in the Town of Mount Rainier, shall be tran-
scribed on new and, or, additional registration books to be
provided by the Mayor and Common Council. The work of
transcribing the names of the voters to the new and, or, ad-
ditional books shall be done, under the supervision and direc-
tion of the Supervisors of Election, by persons of intelligence
who write a clear legible hand, easy to read, at least one-half
of such employees having no official connection or relation-
ship with the Mayor and Common Council holding office at
the time the work is performed. The persons selected for
this work of transcribing will be nominated by the Super-
visors of Election and approved by the Mayor and Common
Council and they will be paid such compensation as the Mayor
and Common Council may direct.

In the case of persons who are registered on the present
registration books who have not voted at least once at a gen-
eral or special town election in the five calendar years preced-
ing the recopying of such books, the Supervisors of Election
shall send them a notice to the address given on said regis-
tion books, notifying them that their names will not appear
on the new registration books, and warning them it will be
necessary for them to appear before the Registration Officials
in the precinct in which they reside on one of the regular
registration days and register in order to be entitled to vote,
and the notice so sent by the Supervisors shall take the place
of a transfer in the event that any such person does not
at the time of applying for registration, live in the Precinct
in which he or she was formerly registered; but before send-
ing such notice said Supervisors of Election shall publish for
two consecutive weeks in a newspaper published in Prince
George's County, showing the intent and purpose of said
notices.

After the new registration books are prepared in accord-
ance with this section, it shall be the duty of the Registra-
tion Officials in each Precinct of the Town, when they sit as
Registration Officers, to strike from the registration books of
the respective precincts, the names of all persons registered

or special town election in the five preceding calendar years
or in the current year, and such person so stricken from said
