County", sub-title "Lonaconing", increasing the term of the
Mayor, Councilmen and Bailiffs of Lonaconing, providing
for the election of the Bailiff and extending the terms of the
Councilmen elected in 1942.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 389, 390, 391, 395 and 397 of Article 1 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition),
title "Allegany County", sub-title "Lonaconing", be and they
are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
389. All citizens of the age of twenty-one years and up-
wards, who have resided within the corporate limits of Lona-
coning six months next preceding the election, and who shall
have been registered as hereinafter prescribed, shall on the first
Tuesday in May, 1943, and on the same day every second year
thereafter, at such place as the Mayor and Councilmen may
designate within the corporate limits, elect one qualified voter
of said town to be Mayor of Lonaconing, who shall hold office
for two years and until his successor shall have qualified; and
at the same time shall elect three qualified voters of said town
to be Councilmen for said town, to serve four years, or until
their respective successors shall have qualified; and at the
same time shall elect one qualified voter of said town to be
the Bailiff of said town, to serve for two years or until his
successor has qualified, and the Mayor and Councilmen and
the Bailiff shall qualify on or before the fourth Tuesday in
May, and shall enter upon their respective duties on the first
Tuesday in June of each year.
390. The Mayor and Councilmen of Lonaconing shall cause
to be maintained a registration of the legal voters of said town,
and the registration heretofore made, shall, together with such
additions, changes and alterations as may be or become neces-
sary, constitute such registration; said registration shall be
made and corrected substantially in the manner provided in
the Code of Public General Laws, title "Elections", sub-title
"Registration", and such registration shall be essential to the
right of voting at any election under this charter, but shall not
be conclusive evidence of such right to vote; and said Mayor
and Councilmen shall on or before the first Tuesday in April,
1943, and on or before the first Tuesday in April every
second year thereafter, appoint three persons as officers of
registration who shall sit at the council chamber for two days,
from nine o'clock a. m. to twelve noon, and from one o'clock
p. m. to five p. m., and from seven o'clock p. m. to nine p. m.,
and the said officers of registration shall give at least one
