General Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date of
its passage.

CHAPTER 200.
(House Bill 204)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
477A of Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land (1930 Edition), title "Prince George's County", sub-
title "Hyattsville", as enacted by Chapter 451 of the Acts of
the General Assembly of 1937, and to provide an increase in
the compensation of the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town
<of Hyattsville; providing that this Act shall not take effect
until it has been submitted to the qualified voters of said
municipality and approved by a majority of the persons
voting thereon at a referendum election to be held not later
than six months from the date of the passage of this Act.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 477 A. of Article 17 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Prince George's
County", sub-title "Hyattsville", as enacted by Chapter 451 or
the Acts of the General Assembly of 1937, be, and the same is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

477A. The Mayor of Hyattsville, elected in May, 1943, and
Ms successor or successors thereafter appointed in accordance
with law to fill any vacancy in the office of Mayor or thereafter
elected at any regular election, shall receive a compensation of
(fifty (|50. 00) dollars per month to reimburse him for his
(expenses in connection with the office of Mayor. Each Council-
man elected in May, 1943, qualified and holding office during
the municipal year 1943-1944, and each Councilman thereafter
appointed in accordance with law to fill any vacancy in that
office or thereafter elected and qualified, shall receive a com-
pensation of twenty-five (f 25. 00) dollars per month to reim-
burse him for his expenses in connection with the office of
Councilman. The compensation herein provided to be paid
to the Mayor and Councilmen shall be chargeable as a munic-
ipal expense and included in the tax levy for each year.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall not
become effective unless and until it shall be submitted to the
qualified voters living within the corporate limits of the Town
of Hyattsville, as the same exist at the time of the passage
of this Act, or on the first Monday in May, 1943, should this
