•as said sections were amended by Chapter 79 of the Acts
of 1941, be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
235. The County Commissioners of Caroline County are
hereby authorized and empowered to pay annually an
amount not exceeding Eight Thousand Four Hundred Dol-
lars ($8, 400. 00) to the several volunteer fire companies so
long as said fire companies remain active bodies, and active
fire fighting organizations for their benefit, said sum of
money to be used by the respective fire companies for the
purchase, repair or maintenance of fire fighting equipment.
2. 36. Said payment shall be made on the first day of
September in each and every year by the County Com-
missioners of Caroline County, and it shall be distributed
in equal proportions to the six following fire companies
of Caroline County, viz: The Denton Volunteer Fire Com-
pany, of Denton, Maryland; The Federalsburg Volunteer
Fire Company of Federalsburg, Maryland; Ridgely Volun-
teer Fire Department, Incorporated, of Ridgely, Mary-
land; Greensboro Volunteer Fire Co., Incorporated; The
Marydel Volunteer Fire Company, Incorporated, and the
Preston Volunteer Fire Company, Incorporated.
237., The County Commissioners of Caroline County
are hereby authorized and empowered to levy an-
nually an amount not exceeding Eight Thousand
Four Hundred Dollars ($8, 400. 00) for the above
purposes on the assessable property of said Caroline
County. Before the County Commissioners shall be re-
quired to pay the moneys levied for the purposes of this
sub-title to the respective fire companies, the said com-
missioners shall have the power to require the officers of
said fire companies to appear before them and show to the
satisfaction of said commissioners that any sums of money
paid by the said commissioners to the said fire companies
under this sub-title have been expended for the purposes
set forth in this sub-title, and also that said respective fire
companies are active fire fighting organizations. In the
event any of the fire companies hereinbefore mentioned
cease to remain active fire fighting organizations, or have
not used the moneys appropriated to them for the sole pur-
poses set forth in this sub-title, then the County Commis-
sioners are authorized and directed to pay to the other
volunteer fire companies mentioned in this sub-title, in
equal proportions, the unexpended moneys in the hands of
the said County Commissioners.
