CHAPTER 747.
(Senate Bill 403)
AN ACT authorizing the County Commissioners of Garrett
County to levy a total of Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars
($25, 000) for the years 1944 and 1945 for the purpose
of either making improvements in and additions to the
present Oakland High School Building or building a
new high school in Oakland.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the County. Commissioners be and they are
hereby authorized to levy Twelve Thousand Five Hundred
Dollars ($12, 500. 00) for the year 1944, and Twelve Thou-
sand Five Hundred Dollars ($12, 500. 00) for the year
1945, which money shall be expended by the Board of Edu-
cation for Garrett County, for either of the following pur-
poses which the said Board may deem best:
(1) to erect a new auditorium on some lot, in or adja-
cent to the town of Oakland, which is now owned or may
be purchased by the Board of Education for Garrett
County, and in addition to this, to make class rooms out of
the present auditorium situated on the Second Floor in the
present Oakland High School Building, the total cost for
the said lot, the erection of the new auditorium and the
making of new class rooms in the present high school
building not to exceed Twenty-Five Thousand Dollars
($25, 000. 00); or
(2) if in the judgment of the Board of Education of
Garrett County it is unwise to purchase a new lot, erect
a new auditorium, and to make the additional class rooms
in the present high school building, and it will be of
greater benefit to the citizens of Garrett County to con-
struct a new high school then the said Twenty-five Thou-
sand Dollars ($25, 000. 00) shall be used for the purchase
of a lot in or adjacent to Oakland, and the construction of
a new high school thereon.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the County
Commissioners and the Board of Education of Garrett
County shall determine upon the plans for said new school
building or said new auditorium and class rooms, the said
plans and site for said building or auditorium to be ap-
proved by the State Superintendent of Schools as provided
in Section 30 of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland.
