SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1st, 1941.

CHAPTER 532.
(Senate Bill 414)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
196, sub-section (5) of Article 56 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Licenses", sub-title
"Speed, Size, Weight, Construction and Equipment of
Motor Vehicles", providing penalties for violations of
the maximum of speed limits of motor vehicles.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 196, sub-section (5) of Article 56
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title
"Licenses", sub-title "Speed, Size, Weight, Construction
and Equipment of Motor Vehicles", be and the same is
hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments to read
as follows:
196.
(5) (Penalties) Any person violating any of the pro-
visions of Sub-sections (1) or (3) of this section shall be
deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to a fine of
not less than one dollar ($1. 00) nor more than one hun-
dred dollars for the first offense. Any person violating
any of the provisions of Sub-section (2) of this section
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to
a fine of not less than five dollars ($5. 00) nor more than
one hundred dollars ($100. 00) for the first offense. Any
person operating a motor vehicle upon any highway of
this State at a rate of speed greater than fifty miles per
hour, or fifty-five miles per hour on dual lane boulevard
highways, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and
subject, upon conviction, to a fine of not less than five dol-
lars ($5. 00) nor more than one hundred dollars ($100. 00).
Any person operating a motor vehicle upon any highway
of this State at a rate of speed greater than seventy miles
per hour shall be subject, upon conviction, to a fine of not
less than twenty-five dollars ($25. 00) nor more than one
thousand dollars ($1, 000. 00), or to be imprisoned for not
less than fifteen days nor more than one year, or to both
fine and imprisonment, for the first offense; and any per-
