point a stenographer for his official use. Each of said
stenographers shall hold his or her position at the pleasure
of the Judge by whom he or she is appointed, and shall re-
ceive compensation therefor at a rate not exceeding twelve
hundred dollars ($1200. 00) per annum. Such compensation
shall be levied annually by the County Commissioners of said
County, and shall be paid as are the salaries of other County
employees, and charged to the expenses of the Circuit Court
for Prince George's County.

SEC. 2. And be it farther enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety, and being
passed by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of all
the members elected to each of the two houses of the General
Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date of its
passage.

CHAPTER 177.
(House Bill 408)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 42
of Article 2B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Alcoholic Beverages", sub-title "Regulations
and Restrictions", to make unlawful the sale of any alcoholic
beverages on Sunday in Queen Anne's County or the deliv-
ery, giving away or other disposition of alcoholic beverages
by any licensed dealer on Sunday in Talbot and Queen
Anne's Counties, and prescribing penalties for the violation
thereof.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 42 of Article 2B of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Alcoholic Beverages", sub-
title "Regulations and Restrictions", be and it is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

42. General Regulations, Hotels, Restaurants and Clubs—
Restrictions after Midnight and on Sunday. No retail dealer
shall be permitted to sell any alcoholic beverages at a bar or
counter at any time between the hours of midnight and 6
A. M. or at any bar or counter on Sunday. In Talbot and
Queen Anne's Counties, it shall be unlawful for anyone to
sell or for any licensed dealer to deliver, give away or other-
