NO. 10.
(House Joint Resolution 18)
A Joint Resolution requesting the State Board of Public
Works to provide such sum as in said Board's discretion
may be necessary to inaugurate and administer effectively
the Federal Surplus Food Stamp Plan, and requesting the
State Department of Public Welfare to administer said
Plan in Maryland.
WHEREAS, the United States Government has inaugurated a
plan for the distribution of surplus farm commodities which
is commonly known as the Federal Surplus Food Stamp Plan;
and
WHEREAS, said Plan is in successful operation in various
States and has contributed to the welfare of large numbers
of citizens in such States; and
WHEREAS, said Federal Surplus Food Stamp Plan facilitates
the marketing of agricultural products through the normal
marketing channels, thus benefiting both producers and con-
sumers of farm products; and
WHEREAS, the advantages of said Plan are needed by the
clients of the various relief agencies; and
WHEREAS, the said Federal Surplus Food Stamp Plan has
been made available to the State of Maryland; therefore be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Federal Surplus Food Stamp Plan is hereby indorsed and ap-
proved and the State Department of Public Welfare is re-
quested to administer said Plan in Maryland; and be it further
Resolved, That the State Board of Public Works is request-
ed to provide such sum as in said Department's discretion
may be necessary to inaugurate and administer effectively the
Federal Surplus Food Stamp Plan; and be it further
Resolved, That this resolution be spread on the House Jour-
nal and that a copy be sent to His Excellency, the Governor
and that a copy be sent to the Director of Public Welfare and
that a copy be sent to the State Board of Public Works.
