(House Joint Resolution 20)
A Joint Resolution Requesting U. S. Congress to Pass Pend-
ing Bill Providing for the Establishment of a Pish Hatchery
in Maryland.
WHEREAS, There are at the present time 136 Federal fish
hatcheries in the United States, not one of which is located
in the State of Maryland, and
WHEREAS, The Federal {government has established excellent-
hatcheries in North Carolina and Virginia, and
WHEREAS,, Due to deplorable conditions, shad fishing in
Maryland has been reduced from 8, 000, 000 pounds per annum
to less than 500, 000 pounds during a period of twenty years,
and
WHEREAS, Unless provision is made for a fish hatchery
and/or rearing ponds for fish in Maryland, there will be
further reduction in the number of fish and the fish industry
in Maryland, therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland? That the
U. S. Congress be and it is hereby urgently requested to pass
the bill now pending1 before it providing for a fish hatchery in
Maryland, and be it further.
Resolved? That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby
directed to send under the Great Seal of the State a copy
of this resolution to the President of the United States, to
the President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of
the House of Representatives, and to each member from Mary-
land to the United States Congress.
