HERBERT R, O'CONOR, GOVERNOR. 1835

SEC. 74. The City Engineer, under the direction of the
Mayor and City Council and the Street Committee, shall have
supervision of the streets, highways, lanes and alleys of the
City, both as to construction as well as paving and curbing.
He shall supervise the construction of all sewers, and perform
all duties in line with his office, including that of Building
Inspector, as are designated by the Mayor and City Council
and the Street Committee.

BUILDING INSPECTOR.

SEC. 75. The Mayor may at any time, should the need arise,
by and with the advice and consent of the City Council, ap-
point for such periods as are necessary a Building Inspector
who shall be responsible to see that all building operations,
improvements and inspections are carried out in accordance
with enacted ordinances and perform such other duties, in-
cluding that of City Engineer, as in line with his office are
designated by the Mayor and City Council.

CHIEF OF POLICE.

SEC. 76. The Mayor, by and with the advice and consent
of the City Council, on assuming office shall appoint for a
period of one year a citizen of the City who has been a resi-
dent of said City for at least one year and is of good moral
standing as Chief of Police, who shall, on taking office, give a
surety bond to the Mayor and City Council to be approved by
the Mayor in the sum of Two Thousand ($2, 000. 00) Dollars
for the faithful performance of his duties.

SEC. 77. The Mayor and City Council may, if it sees fit,
appoint assistants to the Chief of Police for the same, more,
limited or special duties for such periods as they deem wise,
subject to the following regulations and allow him or them
such compensation as they consider proper.

SEC. 78. The Chief of Police and any other regular or spe-
cial policeman appointed must enforce all City Ordinances,
preserve the peace and good order of the City and perform
such other and further duties as may be assigned them and
shall have the powers of a Deputy Sheriff for Harford Count}.
Any person resisting such an officer in the discharge of his
duties shall be liable upon conviction to punishment in the
same manner and to the same extent as if he had resisted a
Deputy Sheriff.

BOARD OF HEALTH.

SEC. 79. The Mayor shall, upon assuming office, by and
with the advice and consent of the City Council, appoint three
