466, respectively, of said Article, providing that male per.
sons sentenced to the County Jail, may under certain con-
ditions, be transferred to the custody of the Chief of Police
of Anne Arundel County for the purpose of performing
labor and services at the County Police Stations without
compensation and that the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County
or the Warden of the County Jail may employ such persons
to perform labor and services at the County Jail.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and the same is hereby added to
Article 2 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Anne Arundel County", sub-title "Police De-
partment", and that another new section be and the same is
hereby added to said Article, sub-title "Sheriff", said new sec-
tions to be known as Section 406BA and 466A to follow imme-
diately after Sections 406B and 466, respectively, of said Arti-
cle and to read as follows:

406BA. Subject to the conditions prescribed in this section,
the Chief of Police of Anne Arundel County may from time to
time obtain the custody of persons sentenced to the county
jail of Anne Arundel County for the performance of labor and
services in and about the police stations of said County now
or hereafter established. The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County
is hereby authorized, upon the written request of the said
Chief of Police and with the prior consent of the State's
Attorney of the county, to transfer any able-bodied male
person, sentenced to serve a term of not more than three
months in the county jail, to the custody of the County Police,
to be held by them for any portion, or portions, of the unex-
pired term for which such person was sentenced. Any person
so transferred to the custody of said Department shall forth-
with be taken to a police station in Anne Arundel County
and he shall be confined to the premises of the station until
such time as he may be returned to the county jail. It shall
be the duty of the Department to provide for the guarding1,
transportation, lodging, feeding, clothing and medical care of
all persons so held by it. While in the custody of the Depart-
ment, such persons shall b« employed, without compensation,
in performing such services in and about the station as the
said Chief of Police may prescribe, including cleaning, cook-
ing and repair and maintenance work; provided, however, that
no services shall be required or permitted by the Department
to be performed for the benefit of any private person or per-
sons but the same shall be performed only with respect to
property used, or persons engaged, in the lawful activities of
the Department.
