In the event no lodging facilities are available for any per-
son so transferred to the custody of the Department, he shall
be returned to the county jail for lodging overnight. In any
event, the Department may return any person to the county
jail at any time and it shall always return any such person
not later than the day preceding that on which his sentence
terminates. It shall be the duty of the warden or other person
in charge of the county jail to transfer to the custody of the
Department any prisoners designated by the Sheriff of Anne
Arundel County pursuant to this section and to accept custody
of prisoners returned by the Department at any time. Any
prisoner escaping or attempting to escape from the custody
of the Department shall be subject to the same penalties which
may be by law provided for prisoners escaping or attempting
to escape from the county jail to which he had been sentenced.

466A. The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County or the Warden
of the County Jail is hereby authorized to employ, without
compensation, male prisoners sentenced to the County Jail to
perform such services around the County Jail as they may
prescribe, including cleaning, cooking and repair and main-
tenance work; except that no services shall be required or
permitted by the Sheriff or Warden to be performed for the
benefit of any private person or persons but the same shall be
performed only with respect to property used, or persons
engaged, in the lawful activities of the County Jail.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1st, 1941.

CHAPTER 932.

(House Bill 801)

AN ACT to authorize the Mayor and City Council of Cum-
berland, Maryland, to borrow the sum of Five Hundred
Thousand ($500, 000. 00) Dollars, and to issue coupon bonds
for payment of the same, to be known as "Water Improve-
ment Bonds of 1941", and to sell the same and to use the
proceeds thereof for the purpose of paying expenses incident
to the construction of an auxiliary water line from Lake
Gordon to the City of Cumberland, and to provide for the
payment of said bonds and the interest thereon, and pro-
viding for a referendum thereon.
