with the provisions of the sub-title. The Burgess and
Commissioners before entering upon the duties of their
office shall take and subscribe to an oath to be adminis-
tered by a person authorized to administer oaths in Fred-
erick County, that they will diligently and faithfully, to
the best of their skill and judgment perform the duties of
their office. The oath shall be signed by the officer by whom
it is administered and a certificate filed among the records
of the Corporation.

58. The Burgess by virtue of his office shall be Presi-
dent of the Board of Commissioners and shall preside at
all meetings of said Board. He shall have the power to veto
any order, resolution or ordinance incurring any debt,
which if vetoed shall not become valid unless passed by all
of the members of the Board voting in favor thereof. On
all other matters in case of a tie he shall have the deciding
vote. The Burgess shall sign all ordinances passed by the
Board. The Commissioners shall choose one of their mem-
bers who shall be president pro-tem of the Board. In the
absence of the Burgess the President pro-tem of the Board
shall preside at all meetings. In case of the temporary
absence of the Burgess from the town or in the event of the
inability of the Board shall discharge the duties of the Bur-
gess. The Board shall settle its rules of procedure. A major-
ity of the Board shall be a quorum to do business. All vacan-
cies in the office of Burgess or Commissioners shall be filled
within ten days by the remaining Burgess or Commission-
ers as the case may be by a majority vote of the Burgess
and Commissioners for the remainder of the term. The
Board of Commissioners shall be the judges of the quali-
fications and election of the Burgess and Commissioners of
Burkittsville.

59. The Board of Commissioners shall hold their first
meeting on the Monday after their election in said town,
and thereafter from time to time as occasion may require.
The Burgess may convene the Board in special session as
often as in his judgment the interests of the town may
require. The Board may fix by ordinance the days on which
they may hold regular meetings.

60. The Burgess shall annually at the first meeting of
the Board of Commissioners in June appoint, subject to
conformation by a majority vote of the Board, a Clerk,
who shall keep the minutes of the proceedings of the Board
in a well-bound book, which shall be open to inspection of
all persons interested therein. He shall collect all taxes now
