CHAPTER 889.
(House Bill 576)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections
938, 939 and 940 of Article 17 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Prince George's
County", sub-title "Sheriff", relating to the guards to the
jail and providing for the appointment and the compensation
and duties of guards at said jail.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 938, 939 and 940 of Article 17 of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Prince George's County", sub-title "Sheriff", be and the same
are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
938. The Sheriff of Prince George's County shall have the
power to appoint two persons as guards to the jail in said
county and whenever in his judgment and in the judgment of
the County Commissioners such guard or guards may be
deemed necessary for the safekeeping of persons confined in
said jail.
939. The said guards when appointed shall each receive
Fourteen Hundred Dollars ($1400. 00) per annum, payable in
equal monthly installments. The said salary for the guards
shall be levied by the County Commissioners of Prince
George's County at their regular term for levying taxes for
each year.
The said guards when appointed shall perform such duties
as may be assigned them by the Sheriff.
940. Any guard or relief guard so appointed shall hold his
appointment at the will and pleasure of the Sheriff.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1941.
