150 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 127

WHEREAS, Samuel Augustus Jones left as his widow Mrs.
Gertrude Jones, who is now in need of financial assistance;
therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County
be and they are hereby authorized and directed to pay to
Mrs. Gertrude Jones, widow of Samuel Augustus Jones, a
former police officer of the county, a monthly pension for a
period of five years in the amount of one-half of the average
monthly salary of her husband, Samuel Augustus Jones, dur-
ing his last year of service as a police officer of the county.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1st, 1941.

CHAPTER 127.
(Senate Bill 263)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
293A of Article 23 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Wicomico County", sub-
title "Salisbury", as enacted by Chapter 598 of the Acts
of 1939 of the General Assembly of Maryland, granting
to The Mayor and Council of Salisbury additional powers
to pass ordinances establishing a merit and pension sys-
tem for the City of Salisbury.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 293A of Article 23 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Wi-
comico County", sub-title "Salisbury" as enacted by Chap-
ter 598 of the Acts of 1939 of the General Assembly of
Maryland be and the same is hereby repealed and re-
enacted with amendments so as to read as follows:

293A. In addition to the other powers granted to the
Mayor and Council of Salisbury in this Article, the Mayor
and Council of Salisbury shall have power to pass all ne-
cessary by-laws and ordinances for the establishment of
a merit and pension system and shall classify all the
municipal offices and positions under The Mayor and Coun-
cil of Salisbury, including those to which appointments are
made by any person or body who are, or may be clothed
