to Article 27 of the Code of Public General Laws of Maryland
(1939 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title
"Sabbath Breaking", said new section to follow immediately
after Section 576 of said Article, to be designated as Section
576A, and to read as follows:

576A. Nothing contained in Sections 560 or 576 of this
Article shall be construed to prohibit or make unlawful the
exhibition within the boundaries of Carroll County of motion
pictures between the hours of 2 P. M. and 6 P. M. and after
9 P. M. on the first day of the week commonly called Sunday,
whether the same be exhibited with or without a charge or
admission fee, provided, however, that such exhibition shall
be subject to all provisions of law relating to licensing and
censorship applicable to motion picture exhibitions on week
days. The work or employment of any operator, ticket seller
or any other employees or attendants in connection with any
such exhibition of motion pictures shall not be unlawful be-
cause performed on Sundays. Any exhibition of motion pic-
tures on Sundays, except as hereby authorized, shall be unlaw-
ful and subject to the provisions and penalties of said Sections
560 and 576 of this Article.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That all laws and parts
of laws, whether public general or public local laws, incon-
sistent with the provisions of this Act, be and the same are
hereby repealed with respect to any exhibition authorized by
Section 576A as enacted by Section 1 hereof, to the extent of
any such inconsistency.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That Sections 1 and 2
of this Act shall not become effective until they have been
submitted for adoption or rejection to the qualified voters of
Carroll County and of each of the separate Election Districts
of said County. On the day fixed by law for the holding of
the next general election in November, 1942, there shall be
submitted to the legal and qualified voters of Carroll County
and of each of the separate Election Districts of said County
the question whether the exhibition of motion pictures on Sun-
days shall be authorized, as provided by Section 1 hereof, in
said County or in any of the said Election Districts thereof.
The Supervisors of Elections shall cause to be printed on the
official ballots to be used at said election the title of this Act,
and underneath said title on separate lines a square or box
to the right of and opposite the words "For Motion Pictures
on Sunday", and a corresponding square or box to the right
of and opposite the words "Against Motion Pictures on Sun-
day", so that the said voters shall be able to designate by a
