or head and the leader or hedging, shall have a length greater
than the following:

In Chesapeake Bay, south of a line from Sandy Point to
Love Point and in the Choptank River from the mouth of the
Choptank River to a line drawn from Cape Point to Drum
Point—500 yards.

In Chesapeake Bay, north of a line from Sandy Point to
Love Point and south of a line from the northernmost point
of Poole's Island to Worton's Point—400 yards.

In Chesapeake Bay, north of a line from the northernmost
point of Pooled Island to Worton's Point—1, 000 feet.

In the tributaries of Chesapeake Bay except as hereinbefore
provided, and in the Potomac River—400 yards.

In Chincoteague, Sinepuxent, Isle of Wight and Assawoman
bays, and their tributaries, and in the Atlantic Ocean within
three miles of the Maryland shore—500 yards.

(d) It shall be unlawful to drive, maintain, or permit any
stake to remain, in any line of stakes or otherwise, which
projects above the surface of the water less than three feet at
high tide.

(e) The outer end of each line of pound or net stakes shall
be plainly marked by a brush or other suitable day marker,
readily discernable to indicate the opening between nets. The
name of the owner and the license number of each pound or
stake net shall be displayed in black letters, not less than two
inches in height, upon a white background on a stake at the
outer end of the pound or line, at such height and in such
position as to be readily seen from adjacent navigable chan-
nels.

(f) No pound or stake net shall be placed in or upon the
waters covering leased oyster ground without the permission
of the lessee.

(g) It shall be the duty of each licensee to maintain his
stakes in good condition, and to promptly remove and renew
any stakes that may be unsound, broken or liable to go adrift.
It shall be unlawful to permit or allow to remain in the water
any pound or net stake after the license to use the same has
expired, or has been surrendered or revoked.

30. Haul Seines, (a) It shall be unlawful to drag any
seine by the use of a vessel or boat, or to use any haul seine
more than 600 yards in length except that if the State of Vir-
ginia should take action making it unlawful to use haul seines
more than 500 yards in length or should take such action
contingent upon similar action by the State of Maryland, then
it shall be unlawful to use any haul seine more than 500 yards
in length. Nothing in this section shall be construed to pre-
