vent the setting of a seine from a vessel or boat in the custom-
ary manner.

(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to empty a seine
upon the shore or beach so as to leave the small fish to perish,
or in any water less than twelve inches deep; but he shall at
all times empty his seine in waters of sufficient depth to enable
the smaller fish to return to the waters for growth.

(c) It shall be unlawful to haul any seine in the waters
covering leased oyster ground except by permission of the
lessee.

30A. Anchored Gill Nets and Fyke or Hoop Nets, (a) It
shall be unlawful to set or use any anchored gill net or fyke
or hoop net or any line of such nets which (1) has a greater
length than one-third the distance across the waters of the
bay, sound, river, creek, cove or inlet where it is set or (2) is
so set or used as to impede or obstruct navigation on or to
block in any way the main channel of such bay, sound, river,
creek, cove or inlet

(b) No anchored gill net shall be set or used closer to a
pound or stake net than 400 yards, measured at right angles
to the line of stakes.

SOB. Sizes of Mesh. It shall be unlawful to fish with any
net whose size of stretched mesh (allowing a reasonable toler-
ance for shrinkage) is less than herein provided: pound net,
2% inches; haul seine, 2% inches; gill net, 2% inches; fyke
or hoop net, 2 inches. Nothing in this section shall apply
to the catching of eels.

59. The season for catching shad and herring in the tidal
waters of this State shall be as follows:

(a) In Chesapeake Bay and tributaries south of a line from
the northernmost point of Poole's Island to Worton's Point,
except in Potomac River, February 1st to May 26th, both dates
inclusive.

(b) In Chesapeake Bay and tributaries north of a line from
the northernmost point of Poole's Island to Worton's Point,
March 15th to June 5th, both dates inclusive.

(c) In Chincoteague, Sinepuxent, Isle of Wight and Assa-
woman Bays and their tributaries, and in the Atlantic Ocean
within three miles of the Maryland shore, March 1st to May
26th, both dates inclusive.

(d) In Potomac River, March 1st to May 26th, both dates
inclusive.

(e) It shall be unlawful for any person to catch, offer for
sale or have in his possession any shad or herring after June
6th.
