9491). The said Law Assistant may; at the direction of
said State's Attorney, appear in any Circuit Court of the State
on behalf of the State, provided that no additional compensa-
tion shall be paid for this service.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That if any clause,
sentence, part or parts of this Act, or of any section thereof
shall be held unconstitutional, such unconstitutionality shall
not affect the validity of the remaining parts of this Act or
of any section thereof. The Legislature hereby declares that
it would have passed the remaining parts of this Act or any
sections thereof, if it had known such clause, sentence, part
or parts of any section thereof should be declared, uncon-
stitutional.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1939.

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 20 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Som-
erset County", sub-title, "County Commissioners", said new
section to be known as Section 48A and to follow imme-
diately after Section 48 of said Article, providing for the
appropriation of money for the maintenance of the Fire
Companies of Somerset County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
20 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edi-
tion), title "Somerset County", sub-title "County Commis-
sioners", said new section to be known as Section 48A and to
follow immediately after Section 48 of said Article, and to
read as follows:
48A. The County Commissioners of Somerset County are
heret^ authorized, empowered and required to appropriate
and levy annually the sum of twenty-five hundred dollars
(f2, 500. 00) for the use of the Organized Volunteer Fire Com-
panies of said Somerset County. The said sum shall be di-
vided into three parts and paid annually to the Treasurers
