CHAPTER 53.
(House Bill 146)

AN ACT to add four new sections to Section 949 of Article 16
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edi-
tion), title "Montgomery County", sub-title "State's Attor-
ney", the said new sections to be known as 949A, 949B, 949C
and 949D and to follow immediately after Section 949 of
said Article, authorizing the State's Attorney of Mont-
gomery County to appoint a Law Assistant, and prescribing
the duties and compensation of said Law Assistant.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land,
That four new sections be, and the same are hereby
added to Article 16 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land (1930 Edition), title "Montgomery County", sub-title
"State's Attorney", the said new sections to be designated as
949A, 949B, 949C and 949D, to follow immediately after Sec-
tion 949 of said Article and to read as follows:

949A. The State's Attorney for Montgomery County is
hereby authorized, empowered and directed to appoint a Law
Assistant to said State's Attorney at a compensation not to
exceed the sum of One Thousand, Eight Hundred Dollars
($1, 800. 00) per annum in the discretion of and to be paid by
the County Commissioners of said County, said salary to be
paid monthly. The said Law Assistant who shall be a member
of the Bar of the Court of Appeals of Maryland, shall per-
form such work in said State's Attorney's office and such other
work as he may be directed by the said State's Attorney in
accordance with law, and before entering upon his duties
he shall execute a bond to the State of Maryland for the faith-
ful performance of his duties, in the penally of Twenty-five
Hundred Dollars ($2, 500. 00) to be approved by a Judge of
the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, and the premium of
said bond shall be paid by the County Commissioners of
Montgomery County.

949B. The said Law Assistant shall, under the direction
of the State's Attorney, assist in the duties and work in and
about the State's Attorney's office, including investigation and
production of facts and evidence and the preparation of the
State's cases.

949C. The said Law Assistant may appear before the
Police Justice of Montgomery County and before any Justice
of the Peace of the State, on behalf of the State, at the direc-
tion of the State's Attorney.
