CHAPTER 364.
(House Bill 767)

AN ACT to authorize and empower the Mayor and Town
Council of Cheverly, in Prince George's County, a Municipal
Corporation, to levy front foot assessments on the abutting
real property in said town where streets, curbs, sidewalks
and gutters are constructed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land,
That the Mayor and Town Council of Cheverly, in Prince
George's County, a municipal corporation, be and they are
hereby authorized to construct roadways, alleys, curbs, side-
walks and gutters in the said town of Cheverly, when, where
and in the manner to be determined by the Mayor and Town
Council.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the Mayor and
Town Council of Cheverly shall have power to assess against
the abutting property and collect from the owners thereof
the cost of roadways, alleys, curbs, sidewalks and gutters, the
assessments being in proportion to the number of assessable
front feet owned, abutting on the streets where same are con-
structed or are about to be constructed; provided that when
corner property fronts or abuts on one street where such im-
provements are made or are about to be made, and abuts or
has its side upon another street where such improvements
are to be made or about to be made, the abutting feet on the
side shall be computed for the purpose of assessment here-
under for only one-half of the length of such side.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That such assessments
when made shall constitute a tax or lien upon such abutting
property with priority over all liens recorded after the passage
of this Act, and shall be. payable in thirty equal semi-annual in-
stalments beginning July 1, 1939; said instalments to bear in-
terest at a rate not to exceed six per centum per annum, and
any assessment or part thereof remaining due and unpaid shall
be enforced and collected by the Mayor and Town Council in
the same manner as town taxes are collected; provided the
Mayor and Town Council shall give two weeks' notice to the
owners of all abutting property, by advertisement, published
at least once a week in one or more newspapers published in
Prince George's County, which advertistment shall state the
date on which such assessments shall be made and warning
all abutting owners to appear at the time and place stated in
said advertisement or notices, to show cause, if any there be,
