Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Secretary of State be and he is hereby requested to furnish the
Superintendent of Schools in each County and Baltimore City
with a sufficient number of copies of the Maryland Manual, so
that each Superintendent can furnish a copy of said Manual
for each public, private and parochial school in his County, or
City, as the case may be.

(House Joint Resolution 20)
A Joint Resolution on the Death of Pope Pins XI
WHEREAS, His Holiness, Pope Pius XI, had ever stood before
the world a fearless champion of piety, peace, patriotism, jus-
tice and tolerance; and
WHEREAS, the people of the Free State of Maryland have
ever rested their destiny on these godly principles, which His
Holiness clearly taught, practically expounded, and faithfully
defended; and
WHEREAS, the Senate and the House of Delegates of Mary-
land have already separately recorded their grief at the pass-
ing of His Holiness, Pope Pius XI, who pointed to a sad and
struggling world the road to joyous peace; therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That, in
grateful tribute to a man whose life and actions were an admir-
able pattern for the fulfillment of their most sacred aspira-
tions, they hereby jointly record both the sense of loss they
feel at the death of His Holiness, Pope Pius XI, and their
profound sympathy with the bereaved members of the church
of which His Holiness was the visible head; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby
directed to send, under the Great Seal of the State, a copy of
this resolution to His Excellency, the Most Reverend Amleto
Giovanni Cicognani, Apostolic Delegate to the United States
of America, together with a request that His Excellency trans-
mit this same copy to the proper officer of the Apostolic Palace
of the Vatican.
