NO. 4.
(House Joint Resolution 16)
A Joint Resolution requesting the Representatives from Mary-
land in Congress to urge that provision be made by the
Federal Government for the construction of a tunnel un-
der the Patapsco River at Baltimore City.
WHEREAS, due to the great congestion of traffic on the
Hanover Street Bridge and through the downtown area of
Baltimore, there is great need for a more direct route with
less congestion and with greater opportunities for expediting
north and south bound traffic; and
WHEREAS, the State Roads Commission has had a study
made and plans prepared for a tunnel under the Patapsco
River, at Baltimore City; and
WHEREAS, as this tunnel would really be for the benefit of
traffic originating in the northeastern and southeastern sec-
tions of the United States, provision for which should prop-
erly be made by the Federal Government; therefore be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
Representatives from Maryland in both the Senate and House
of Representatives of the United States Congress be and they
are hereby requested to take whatever steps possible to urge
upon the proper Federal authorities the desirability and
necessity of providing funds for the construction of a tunnel
tinder the Patapsco River, at Baltimore City, in order to
provide greater facilities for north and south bound traffic
through Baltimore City; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of State is hereby requested
to send a copy of this resolution, under the Great Seal of the
State of Maryland, to each of the Representatives from Mary-
land in the United States Congress.
