subjects as the Police Manual, Public Local Laws of Mont-
gomery County, and such parts of the Public General Laws
of Maryland as such Commissioner deems pertinent to police
duties together with such other subjects relating to police
activities as the Commissioner shall select. Such list shall be
destroyed and of no effect one year after its date, or upon the
preparation of a new list, whichever is sooner.

Sec. 3. The County Commissioners of Montgomery County
are hereby authorized, empowered and directed to appoint
forty-five (45) police officers for Montgomery County at large,
said police officers so appointed to be residents of Montgomery
County, and to be known and designated as "Montgomery
County Police"; provided, however, that the police officers
appointed pursuant to Section 691 of Article 16 of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Mont-
gomery County", sub-title "Police", as the same was re-enacted
by Chapter No. 9 of the Acts of the General Assembly of Mary-
land, Session of 1935, who were members of the police force
on January 1, 1939, shall be among the number so appointed.
In addition to the Montgomery County Police, said County
Commissioners are authorized and empowered from time to
time to appoint not to exceed five (5) park police officers, one
of whom shall be a sergeant, to be known as Sergeant of Park
Policemen, said park police officers to be appointed at such
times as the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning
Commission shall certify the necessity of such appointment
and its readiness to pay their compensation and expense. The
park police officers shall be assigned to the patroling of such
parks, park roads and drives as may be established in Mont-
gomery County under the authority of the Maryland-National
Capital Park and Planning Commission, shall be under the
control and supervision of the Chief of Police of Montgomery
County, and shall possess all of the powers and authority of
other Montgomery County Police officers. All of the provi-
sions of this Act which apply to Montgomery County Police
shall also apply to park police, except where such application
is inconsistent, or where the park police are specifically ex-
cluded therefrom. The compensation, uniforms and equip-
ment and motor vehicles of said park police shall be paid for
and furnished by the Maryland-National Capital Park and
Planning Commission, and shall be the same as other Mont-
gomery County Police of the same grade. Said Montgomery
County Police and park police shall hold their positions until
resignation, death, retirement as hereinafter provided, in-
ability, through sickness or injury, to perform the duties of a
police officer, or dismissal after trial before the Police Trial
Board, as hereinafter provided. Appointments to fill vacan-
