equipment; to provide for the protection of police uniforms;
to provide for the establishment of a Bureau of Criminal
Identification; to provide for the establishment of a Police
Trial Board and to fix the duties thereof; to provide for the
establishment of the Montgomery County Police relief and
retirement fund; to provide for the levying of the cost
thereof; and to provide for the installation of a police call
box system.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That all of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland
which were incorporated in Article 16 of the Public Local
Laws of Maryland, as Sections 691, 692, 693, 694, 695, 696,
697, 698, 699, 700 and 701 in Horace F. Flack's edition of 1930,
as enacted by Chapter No. 299 of the Acts of the General As-
sembly of Maryland, Session 1927, and Chapter No. 307 of the
Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland, Session of 1929,
title "Montgomery County", sub-title "Police", Chapter 375
of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland, Session of
1931, Chapter 535 of the Acts of the General Assembly of
Maryland, Session of 1933, Chapters 9, 248 and 382 of the
Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland, Session of 1935,
and Chapter 57 of the Acts of the General Assembly of Mary-
land, Session of 1937, be and the same are hereby repealed
and re-enacted with amendments, so as to read as follows:
Sec. 1. There is hereby created the office of Police Civil
Service Commissioner for Montgomery County, who shall be
appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Board of County
Commissioners of Montgomery County and who shall receive
a salary not to exceed the sum of eighteen hundred ($1, 800. 00)
dollars per annum, payable in equal monthly instalments.
Sec. 2. The Police Civil Service Commissioner shall prepare,
and from time to time hold, an examination of such applicants
for the position of police officer for Montgomery County as are
residents of said County, and meet such moral, physical and
educational qualifications as the Board of County Commis-
sioners shall prescribe, provided, that before taking such ex-
amination, each applicant shall have been examined by the
County Health Officer and certified by him as meeting the
physical requirements for policemen prescribed by the Board
of County Commissioners for the position of police officer for
Montgomery County. The Police Civil Service Commissioner
shall, within sixty (60) days after giving the examination,
certify to the Board of County Commissioners a list of the
names of the applicants in the order of their grades, com-
mencing with the highest, The examination shall cover such
