salaries to Major and Council" and "Against payment of
salaries to Mayor and Councilmen"; with a square after said
words in each case, for the (X) mark of the voters, and the
voters may vote thereon by an (X) mark after his or her
choice, and if there be a majority of the votes cast in favor
of the payment of salaries then the salaries provided for in
this Act shall immediately begin to accrue; but if there be a
majority of the votes cast against the payment of salaries then
this Act shall be null and void.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted. That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety, and being
passed upon a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of
of all the members elected to each of the two Houses of the
General Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date
of its passage.

CHAPTER 326.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 18
of Article 53 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1929
Supplement), title "Landlord and Tenant, " sub-title "Dis-
tress for Rent, " to exempt certain gasoline tanks and pumps
and oil receptacles from distress for rent, and to make the
provisions of said section state-wide in their application.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 18 of Article 53 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1929 Supplement), title "Landlord and
Tenant, " sub-title "Distress for Rent, " be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

18. The following property shall be exempt from distress
for rent, to wit: Every spinning-wheel, loom, sewing machine,
typewriter, stove, cash register, piano, organ, or other musical
instrument, not the property of the tenant or rented, hired or
loaned to the tenant; and telephone instruments, telephone
booths and other telephone equipment not the property of the
tenant; and gasoline tanks, gasoline pumps and oil receptacles
