The Mayor shall hold office for two years and until the qualifi-
cation of his or her successor, and shall receive a salary of two
hundred dollars ($200. 00) per annum. In case he or she
shall permanently remove his or her residence from said town,
or shall cease to own real estate in his or her own name or the
name of himself or herself and spouse to the assessed value
of at least five hundred dollars, he or she shall immediately
cease to be Mayor, and there shall exist a vacancy in said
office to be filled as hereinafter provided. The Mayor shall
not during his or her term of office either hold or be pecuniarily
interested in any other office under the Mayor and Common
Council of Mount Rainier, nor shall he or she be a party
directly or indirectly in any contract to which said corpora-
tion is a party; the acceptance of, or the continuance to hold
such an office, or the making or becoming interested in such
contract shall immediately disqualify any Mayor and there
shall thereupon exist a vacancy in the office of Mayor to be
filled as hereinafter provided.
6. That the Councilmen of said town shall possess the
same qualifications as the Mayor, and shall become disqualified
in the same manner as does the Mayor. Each of said can-
didates for Councilmen in addition to such qualifications shall
reside at the date of his or her filing for election in the ward:
which he or she is filing to represent, as hereinafter set forth,,
and in case he or she shall remove during his or her term
of office from the ward for which he or she, is elected, his
or her term shall at once terminate and there shall exist a.
vacancy in the office of Councilman of such ward to be filled as
hereinafter provided. The Councilmen shall hold office for
two- years and until the qualification of their successors. The
Councilmen shall each receive a salary of one hundred and
twenty-five ($125. 00) dollars per annum.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the salaries pro-
vided for in this Act shall not begin to accrue until the pay-
ment of such salaries shall be approved by the voters of the
Town of Mount Rainier at the next regular election to be held
in said town. At such election the question of the approval or
disapproval of the payment of the salaries provided for in this
Act shall be submitted to the qualified voters of the said Town
of Mount Rainier, as follows: That on the regular ballots
provided by the Mayor and Common Council at such regular
election there shall be printed the words "For payment of
