'708                      ' LAWS OF MARYLAND.                  [CH. 274

Board of County Commissioners of Baltimore County, the Chief
Engineer of the Fire Department, who shall each serve with-
out compensation in addition to that payable to them by law
for the discharge of the duties of their respective offices, and
an experienced physician residing in Baltimore County, who
shall be appointed for this purpose by the Board of County
Commissioners on or before the first day of January in each
year. The physician so appointed as a member of the Board of
Examiners for the Fire Department shall also be designated by
the Board of County Commissioners as a member of the Board
of Examiners for the Police Department of Baltimore County,
and shall receive for his services as a member of both of said
boards such compensation as may be determined from time to
time by the Board of County Commissioners of Baltimore
County. It shall be the duty of such examining board to ascer-
tain by appropriate investigation the qualifications of all candi-
dates for appointment or promotion in the Fire Department of
Baltimore County and to furnish upon request to the County
Commissioners of Baltimore County lists of those who they
shall deem qualified for appointment or promotion arranged in
the order of their respective qualifications as disclosed by such
examination and from such list appointments and promotions
shall be made by the said Board of County Commissioners of
Baltimore County except appointment to the position of Chief
Engineer, who may or may not be chosen from such lists in the
discretion of the said County Commissioners; provided, how-
ever they shall not place upon such list the name of any per-
son who shall be less than twenty-one years or more than thirty-
five years of age, and said examination shall be conducted by
and under definite rules to be adopted by said examining board
from time to time and when so adopted to be recorded among
the records of the office of the County Commissioners of Balti-
more County before the holding of every examination to which
they shall be made applicable.

241. The County Commissioners of Baltimore County may at
any time remove any member or members in the Fire Depart-
ment of Baltimore County, including the Chief Engineer, for
any offense against law, or good morals, for neglect of duty, for
inefficiency, physical or mental disability or breach of discipline;
and only after written charges and a hearing upon due notice
to the person affected, at which hearing he shall have an oppor-
tunity to produce evidence in his defense and be represented by
counsel and the decision of the County Commissioners of Bal-
timore County upon any such hearing shall be final. Members
of the Fire Department, including the Chief Engineer, and em-
ployees thereof shall serve until removed by the Board of County
Commissioners of Baltimore County, after a hearing as above
