the State's Attorney to institute proceedings for such penalty
at the next term of court.

CHAPTER 274.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Sections 227?
232, 241, 245 and 252 of Article 3 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition and Offutt's Edition of
1928), title "Baltimore County, " sub-title "Fire Depart-
ment, " providing for a Chief Engineer of the Fire Depart-
ment, making him eligible for retirement on pension, as herein
provided, and that said Chief Engineer and firemen may be
retired on pensions after service in the department of not less;
than twenty consecutive years, reducing the age limit for ap-
pointment in the Fire Department, changing the composition
of the Board of Examiners of the Fire Department of Balti-
more County and making certain other changes as to said
Fire Department.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 227, 232, 241, 245 and 252 of Article 3 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition and
Offutt's Edition of 1928), title "Baltimore County, " sub-title
"Fire Department, " be and they are hereby repealed and re-
enacted with amendments to read as follows:

227. In establishing such department they shall provide all
such proper fire engines and instruments, with sufficient equip-
ment necessary therefor to be used for the preservation of prop-
erty in said districts and they shall have the power and au-
thority to employ all officers, one of whom shall have con-
trol of said department and shall be designated as the Chief
Engineer of the Fire Department, and all employees necessary,
in their judgment, to serve and use such fire apparatus for its
intended purposes; and further, also to ordain all needful rules
and regulations for the proper conduct of such officers and em-
ployees, and penalties for the infraction thereof; and they shall
have authority to levy upon the assessable property of the county
such tax as may be necessary to support and maintain said fire
department and pay for the necessary fire engines, hose and
apparatus.

232. There shall be a Board of Examiners for the Fire De-
partment of Baltimore County composed of the President of the
