as Chief Deputy Comptroller and not exceeding three other
clerks and/or -assistants as Deputy Comptrollers. Before any
person stall act as Chief Deputy Comptroller, or Deputy Comp-
troller, such person -shall give a, bond to the State of Maryland,
with security or securities approved by the Governor, in the
penalty of $50, 000, with condition that he will truly and
faithfully discharge, execute and perform all and singular
the powers and duties of Chief Deputy Comptroller or
Deputy Comptroller, as the case may be. The Chief
Deputy Comptroller and each Deputy Comptroller upon his
designation and qualification as above provided, shall have
power (to grant all warrants for money to be paid out of the
Treasury, in pursuance of appropriations by law and counter-
sign all checks drawn by the Treasurer upon any bank or banks,
in which the monies of the State may from time to time be de-
posited, subject to all of the limitations imposed by law upon
the Comptroller in the granting of such warrants and the coun-
tersigning of such checks. The Chief Deputy Comptroller and
each other Deputy Comptroller shall act as such only during the
pleasure of the Comptroller, and the power to act as such Chief
Deputy Comptroller or Deputy Comptroller may be terminated
at any time by the Comptroller for any cause which he may
deem sufficient. In the event of sickness or absence of the Comp-
troller, the power of the Chief Deputy Comptroller or any
Deputy Comptroller to grant warrants and countersign checks
may be terminated by the Board of Public "Works or a majority
of its members for any cause which they may deem sufficient.
The termination of the power of the Chief Deputy and/or any
other Deputy Comptroller to grant warrants and to counter-
sign checks shall not of itself operate to terminate Ins employ-
ment as clerk, assistant or other employee. Whenever the pow-
ers of any person to act as Chief Deputy Comptroller' or Deputy
Comptroller are terminated as herein provided, the Comptroller
may design/ate some other clerk or assistant to act as such Chief
Deputy Comptroller or Deputy Comptroller, subject to the limi-
tations and conditions above prescribed.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect on June 1st, 1931.
