642                         LAWS OF MARYLAND.                  [CH. 240

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 55 of Article 33 of. the Code of Public
General Laws, entitled "Elections, " sub-title "Nominations, " be,
and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments to read as follows:

55. Except in cases provided for by Section 59 and cases of
special election to fill vacancies in office caused by death, resigna-
tion or otherwise, and except in cases of nominations which are
made at the primary election, such certificates of nomination
shall be filed respectively with the Secretary of State in cases
of nominations for State-wide offices, and in cases of nominations
for offices where. the certificate is required to be filed with the
Supervisors of Elections, with the Board of Supervisors of Elec-
tions not later than fifteen days before the day on which the
primary election is held or should be held under the primary
election law; and in case of any vacancy which may exist in re-
spect to any office or Delegates to Convention, by reason of. there
being no candidate to file for the same in any such primary elec-
tion such vacancy shall be filled and the certificate of nomina-
tion filed with the Secretary of State or the Board of Super-
visors of Elections as the case may be, not later than fifteen days
before the day on which the primary is held or should be held
under the primary election law.

CHAPTER 240.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 8
of Article 19 of the Annotated Code of the Public General
Laws of Maryland, Edition of 1924, entitled "Comptroller",
authorizing the employment of clerks, assistants and other
help regulating the duties of such employees, and providing
for the designation of deputies and the conditions under
which such deputies may grant warrants and countersign
checks for money to be paid out of the State Treasury.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 8 of Article 19 of the Annotated Code of the
Public General Laws of Maryland, Edition of 1924, entitled
"Comptroller", be, and the same is hereby repealed and re-
enacted with amendments so as to read as follows:

8. He may employ clerks, assistants and other help, in such
numbers and at such salaries as may be provided for by the
Budget of Appropriations, all of whom shall perform such
duties as may be assigned to them from time to time by the
Comptroller. He may designate one of his clerks or assistants
