18-C thereof, providing for extending the time for payment
of street improvement assessments from four years to ten
years, payable in twenty equal semi-annual installments;
for increasing the amount of money that may be borrowed
on the credit of the town at any one time from four per
centum of the assessed valuation of the real property in the
town to* six per centum of said assessed valuation and au-
thorizing the Mayor and Town Council of Brentwood, Mary-
land, to issue and renew or release certificates of indebted-
ness for the purpose of borrowing money thereon for street
improvements for a period of not to exceed ten years; mak-
ing interest payable semi-annually instead of annually; and
providing that no street improvement shall be made where
fifty-one per centum of the property owners on the street
which it is proposed to improve object to such improvement
in due time; and also providing for the bonding of the Clerk
and Treasurer of said town in amount of not less than two
thousand dollars for the purposes of this Act,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted- by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 18-A, 18-B, and 18-C of Chapter 153
of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of 1922, as
amended by Chapter 167 of the Acts of the General Assembly
of Maryland of 1927 and by Chapter 142 of the Acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland of 1929, be and the same are
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

18-A. The Mayor and Town Council shall cause to be con-
structed in such cases as they may determine to be necessary
for the public benefit and for the interest of the abutting prop-
erty owners, sidewalks, curbs, gutters and streets of concrete
or other permanent material, in any of the streets of the town
of Brentwood, the streets and sidewalks including curbs to be
of such width as may be determined by the Mayor and Town
Council and of a width sufficient for the needs of said streets,
and shall assess, at any time as the said Mayor and Town
Council shall deem proper and after ten days' notice to the
owners, upon the land abutting said improvements the cost
thereof, together with the cost of street and public alley inter-
sections; provided, however, that when property fronts or abuts
on two or more streets where such improvements are made, or
are about to be made, the abutting front feet along the side or
sides of said property—the term "sides of said property" used
in connection herewith shall mean the two longest sides of said
