CHAPTER 74.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections
13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20 and 21 of Article 1 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Al-
legany County, " sub-title "Barton, " amending the charter
of the Town of Barton generally.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 13, 14, 15, 17, 19, 20 and 21 of Ar-
ticle 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Allegany County, " sub-title "Barton, " be and
they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:
13. The citizens of the Town of Barton aforesaid, of the age
of twenty-one (21) years and upwards, who- being citizens of
the United States, have resided in said town for and during a
period of six months next preceding the first Monday in June
in each year at such place or places as may be designated by
the Mayor and Commissioners of Barton for holding elections
in said town, are authorized to elect two persons to serve as
Commissioners for said town, each of whom shall be citizens
of and have resided in said town for a period of at least one
(1) year next preceding said election; also one person to serve
as Mayor of said town and who shall likewise be a citizen of
and have resided in said town for a period of at least one (1)
year next preceding said election.
The Commissioners heretofore elected shall serve their re-
spective terms or until their successors are elected and quali-
fied, and it is hereby provided that at each election in each year
hereafter two (2) Commissioners shall be elected, each for a
term of two years or until their successors are elected and
qualified. The Mayor heretofore elected shall serve his term
or until his successor is elected and qualified, and it is hereby
provided that the Mayor to be elected under the provisions of
this Act shall, after he has qualified, hold his office for a period
of two years or until his successor is elected and qualified.
14. The Mayor and the Commissioners elected under the
provisions of this Act shall qualify on the fourth Monday in
June in each year after their election by taking an oath, to be
administered by some justice of the peace in Allegany County,
