CHAPTER 59.

AN ACT to repeal Sections 283, 284 and 285 of Article 27
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1924 Edition), title
"Crimes and Punishments, " sub-title "Health—Narcotic
Drugs, " and to enact in lieu thereof twenty-nine new sec-
tions, to be known as Sections 283 to 285Z, defining and
relating to narcotic drugs, making uniform the law rela-
ting thereto and providing penalties for the violation
thereof.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Sections 283, 284 and 285 of Article 27 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1924 Edition), title
"Crimes and Punishments, " sub-title "Health—Narcotic
Drugs, " be and they are hereby repealed and that twenty-
nine new sections, to be known as Sections 283 to 285Z, be
and they are hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to read as
follows:

283. The following words and phrases as used in this
sub-title shall have the following meanings unless the con-
text otherwise requires:

(a) "Person" includes any corporation, association, co-
partnership or one or more individuals.

(b) "Physician" means any person authorized by law
to practice medicine in this State and any other person
authorized by law to treat sick and injured human beings
in this State and to use narcotic drugs in connection with
such treatment.

(c) "Dentist" means any person authorized by law to
practice dentistry in this State,

(d) "Veterinarian" means any person authorized by
law to practice veterinary medicine in this State.

(e) "Manufacturer" means a person who by com-
pounding, mixing, cultivating, growing or other process
produces or prepares narcotic drugs, but does not include
a pharmacist who compounds narcotic drugs to be sold or
dispensed on prescription.

(f) "Wholesaler" means a person who supplies nar-
cotic drugs that he himself has not produced or prepared,
on official written order, but not on prescription,
(g) "Pharmacist" means a registered pharmacist and
assistant registered pharmacists of this State.

(h) "Pharmacy Owner" means the owner of a store or
other place of business where narcotic drugs are com-
