of such voters to be such as are now prescribed by the Con-
stitution and laws of this State and of this Article, such
registration shall be essential to the right to vote at any
election, held under this Article, or under any of the provi-
sions of any Act of the General Assembly, submitting any
proposition or question to the decision of the voters of the
City of Cambridge. In order to effect such general regis-
tration, the Commissioners of Cambridge, shall, on or be-
fore the first day of May in every year in which a general
registration is held appoint two persons from each ward,
of different political faith, to act as officers of registration
in their respective wards, who shall sit on two consecutive
days, viz: the first Tuesday and first Wednesday in May,
and also on the first Wednesday and the first Thursday in
July, between the hours of 9 A. M. and 5 P. M. on the said
days for the purpose of enrolling and registering the quali-
fied voters for their respective wards, in such places as
shall be designated by the Commissioners of Cambridge,
and shall receive such compensation, not exceeding three
dollars per day, for such services as the Commissioners of
Cambridge shall prescribe, either by order, passed at the
time of appointment, or by ordinance. Said registration
shall specify the name, age, color and the residence of the
voters on each street, lane or alley of the town, and
for this purpose the Commissioners of Cambridge shall pro-
vide the necessary registration books, one for each ward,
suitable for said purpose. After the registration is com-
pleted, the said books shall be returned by the said officers
of registration to the town clerk, treasurer and collector,
who shall safely keep and preserve them; and in every year
after the year 1912, in the month of June, and on the first
Tuesday of said month and the Wednesday following the
said Tuesday, in said month, the town clerk, treasurer
and collector, together with some person or persons
to be appointed by the Commissioners of Cam-
bridge, in their discretion, when and at such times they
shall deem it necessary, shall sit as officers of registration,
in the Council Chamber or in some other and convenient
place, for the purpose of revising the registration books of
the several wards and for transferring voters from one
ward to the other in case such voters have changed their
residence, and also for the purpose of adding the names of
new and qualified voters to the list of registration, and of
striking off from said registry the names of voters, known
to be dead or proved to be dead to the satisfac-
tion of the said town clerk, treasurer and collector,
or said officers of registration, or who are known to have
