CHAPTER 51.
AN ACT to add a new section and sub-title to Article 75
of the Annotated Code of Public General Laws of Mary-
land, 1924 Edition, title "Pleadings, Practice and Pro-
cess at Law, " to follow immediately after Section 95 and
to be known as Section 95-A under the sub-title "For-
eign Laws, " said new section prescribing the manner
of ascertaining and applying foreign laws in actions or
proceedings at law.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That a new section and sub-title be and it is
hereby added to Article 75 of the Annotated Code of Public
General Laws of Maryland, 1924 Edition, title "Pleadings,
Practice and Process at Law, " to follow after Section 95
and be known as Section 95-A under the sub-title "Foreign
Laws, " and to read as follows:
95A. Whenever in any action or proceeding at law
any question shall arise as to the law of any other state
or any territory of the United States, or the District of
Columbia, or of any foreign country, such question shall
be decided by the Court, and the Court shall grant such
instructions to the jury, applying said foreign law to
the facts of the particular case, as would be proper if such
foreign law were domestic law; and whenever such ques-
tion of foreign law relates to the law of any other state
or any territory of the United States, or the District of Co-
lumbia, or of any other state or country whose system of
law is based on the common law of England, the Court
may, in its discretion, take judicial notice of the law of
such state, territory or country, and may consult any book
or document purporting to contain, state or explain the
same, or may inform itself in any other way it deems
proper.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1935.
