SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1935.

CHAPTER 248.
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
12 of Chapter 375 of the Acts of the General Assembly
of Maryland, Session of 1931, providing that Theodore
Vollten shall be named the officer in charge of the De-
partment of Criminal Identification, that he shall be a
member of the Montgomery County Police with the rank
of Sergeant; describing his powers, compensation and
how he may be removed and in case of a vacancy how it
shall be filled.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 12 of Chapter 375 of the Acts of
the General Assembly of Maryland, Session of 1931, be and
the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to read as
follows:
That the said County Commissioners are hereby auth-
orized, empowered and directed to establish and main-
tain as a part of said Police force a Department of Crimi-
nal Identification, and to place in operation any and all mod-
ern facilities, instrumentalities and agencies for the detec-
tion and identification of criminals; provided that Theo-
dore Vollten shall be and he is hereby named as the officer
in charge of said Department; that he, in addition to the
other Sergeants allowed by law, shall have the rank of Ser-
geant of Montgomery County Police and shall be clothed
with all the powers of a member of the said police; that he
shall receive compensation as provided by Section 691 of
Senate Bill No. 64 of the Senate of Maryland, Session
1935; that he shall be under the supervision of the Chief of
Police and shall be subject to and only removed in accord-
ance with the laws now in force relating to the Montgom-
ery County Police and in case of a vacancy the officer in
charge of the Department of Criminal Identification shall
be filled in accordance with the provisions of Section 691
of Senate Bill No. 64 of the Senate of Maryland, Session of
1935, as other vacancies or new positions in the Montgom-
ery County Police; provided further that no salaries or
