also act as clerk for said body, and who in addition to his
or her duties as treasurer shall keep the minutes of their
proceedings in a well-bound book which shall be open to
inspection of all bona fide residents of said town, and said
clerk shall perform such other duties as the Mayor and
Council may assign to him or her.
SEC. 9. And be it further enacted, That the Mayor and
Common Council shall annually appoint one or more bailiffs
for said town, who are hereby declared to have and are
vested with all powers of a constable of Prince George's
County within the said town limits, and who shall perform
such duties as may be required of them by said Mayor and
Common Council, and who shall preserve the peace and
good order of said town.
SEC. 10. And be it further enacted, That the Mayor and
Common Council shall establish a reasonable salary or com-
pensation for the Treasurer. All the appointees of the
Mayor and Common Council shall hold their offices or posi-
tions at the pleasure of said Mayor and Common Council.
The Mayor and Common Council may appoint the same
person to perform the duties of more than one office.
SEC. 11. And be it further enacted, That before any
elective or appointive officer of the said town of Fairmount
Heights shall enter upon his or her duties he or she shall
make oath before some officer authorized to administer
oaths in said Prince George's County; that he or she will
diligently and faithfully discharge the duties of his or her
office and he or she shall file a certificate of such oath with
the clerk of said Mayor and Common Council which shall
become part of the record of the said town.
SEC. 12. And be it further enacted, That the Treasurer
shall give bond to the Mayor and Common Council in such
surety or sureties as said Mayor and Common Council may
require, conditioned for the faithful performance of the
duties of his or her office.
SEC. 13. And be it further enacted, That the Mayor and
Common Council may pass such ordinances not inconsistent
with law, as in their judgment may be for the best inter-
ests of the town and provide in such ordinances the pen-
alties and punishment for violations thereof; they shall
have supervision over the sidewalks, streets, roads and al-
leys of said town; provide fire protection, pass ordinances
