CHAPTER 109.

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 89B of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland, title "State Roads, " as said
Article was enacted by Chapter 539 of the Acts of 1931,
said new section to be known as Section 50A and to follow
immediately after Section 50 of said Article, and to repeal
and re-enact with amendments, Section 54 of said Article,
extending the time for the commencement and completion
of a bridge across the Chesapeake Bay, and to exempt
any public body which may acquire the franchises of The
Chesapeake Bay Bridge Company from a gross receipts
tax on the tolls derived from said bridge.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That a new section be and it is hereby added
to Article 89B of the Annotated Code of Maryland, title
"State Roads, " as said Article was enacted by Chapter
539 of the Acts of 1931, said new section to be known as
Section 50A and to follow immediately after Section 50
of said Article, and to repeal and re-enact, with amend-
ments, Section 54 of said Article, all to read as follows:

50A. Upon the acquisition by any state agency, county,
municipal corporation, public corporation or other public
body of the franchises of The Chesapeake Bay Bridge
Company, and so long as they shall be held by such body,
the provisions of Section 50 of this Article imposing a
franchise tax on the tolls and other revenues of the said
bridge shall be inoperative.

54. The authority hereby granted shall cease and be
null and void unless the construction of said bridge be
commenced within two years and completed within five
years from June 1, 1935.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency law and necessary
for the immediate preservation of the public health and
safety and, having been passed by a yea and nay vote sup-
ported by three-fifths of the members elected to each of
the two Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall
take effect from the date of its passage.
